Thomas is the son of James and Mary Ruark, and was born in Marion County, Indiana. The family moved to Putnam County, Indiana when he was 5. A marriage record has been found for a Thomas Ruark to a "Elizabeth Leadman", on 7 Feb 1872. The date sounds right, but so far there's been no documented proof that this is "our" Eliza & Thomas. In the 1900 census they owned a farm in Russell Township of Putnam Co., and all 3 children still living were with them.
