Lavina M. Ruark, oldest daughter of Thomas and Rachel Ruark, was born in Pulaski County, Kentucky. She was 8 when her family moved to Marion County, Indiana, which is where she was married the first time, to Joel Wright. She joined in the family migration to Putnam County, Indiana in 1861. I'm not sure where she married William Purcell, but the same year she moved she gave birth to her second son, Samuel Purcell. Both of these marriages ended short times later with Lavina being widowed.

Lavina is remembered as "Melvina" by her descendants, and was also reffered to that way in a history of Putnam County. All the legal documents I've found call her "Lavina" or "Lavina M.", though. Perhaps her full name was Lavina Melvina Ruark?

• Samuel Reece Purcell (1861IL-1943IN) - Samuel was listed with Lavina and Harvey in the 1870, 1880, and 1900 censuses. In the 1900 census, his occupation is listed as Dealer - (Buggie?). I've had the opportunity to correspond with a descendant of Samuel. Samuel married Flora Mae Ragland (1874IN-1932IN).
