On this and the following pages, I've tried to avoid listing living people. If you see Descendants Living, that means the next generation has living people. I wanted to show which branches have continued to the present day, but at the same time preserve people's privacy.

The Ruark family first entered this area around 1800, when Timothy Ruark Sr. moved here with his two sons, Timothy Ruark Jr. and Peter Ruark. They had previously lived in Maryland at some point, but I believe that they had last lived in North Carolina, possibly in Caswell County.
Other allied families from this area include Hays, Phelps, and Randall/Randolph.
