The Ruark Family of Brunswick County, North Carolina
Hanson Kelly Ruark was born in Brunswick County,
North Carolina on 1 July 1808, and died there on 15 January 1881. He married
Rebecca Ann Woodside in 1836. She was born 19 March 1818 in Brunswick County,
North Carolina, and passed away 14 November 1899. Hanson was a lighthouse keeper
during the battle for Ft. Fisher during the Civil War, and a postmaster after the war.
- John Henry Ruark (1837-1921NC) - md Lizzie S. ( -1895) on Christmas day, 1860.
John is buried in New Bern, NC, and Lizzie is buried in Southport NC.
They had four children.
- Fannie Anna Ruark (1868NC-1937VA) - md Benjamin Franklin Dukes. Fannie was born
in Wilmington North Carolina, and passed away in Roanoke Virginia.

These families seemed to stay in Brunswick County, and can be easily found there in the
censuses (censi?). At least two of the sons had their families in neighboring
New Hanover County.
