The Ruark Families of Schuyler County and Peoria County, Illinois
Erastus "Rasty" Ruark (@1804OH-1894IL) married Sidney Martin (1806OH-1892IL) in 1827 in
Lawrence County, Illinois. In the 1840 census they were ennumerated in Clay County,
Illinois. In 1850 and 1860 they lived in Schuyler County, Illinois, and left a long line
of Schuyler County, Illinois Ruarks. Sidney was the daughter of Robert Martin and Sidney
Davis. She (and possibly Erastus) were members of the Methodist Episcopal Church.
- William Arustus Ruark (@1828IL-1899IL) - md Ann Elizabeth Jinkins ( -1895IL) in 1871
in Schuyler County. Elizabeth died of cancer, and as William was both deaf and blind
by that time, sadly four weeks later he still was not aware his wife had passed away.
- Mary Jane Ruark (@1831IL-1893IL) - md Jacob Norton in 1858 in Schuyler County.
They had a total of eight children, only 3 of whom were living at the time of Mary's
death.

- Nancy Ann Ruark (1832IL-1876IL) - md Philip C. Skiles (1829IL-1912IL) in 1849, in
Schuyler Co. They had eight children, 4 girls and 4 boys. He remarried in 1901 to
Mary Dace ( -1906). When he was young he was a member of the United Brethren Church,
but later he joined the United Baptist, in which he was a minister for over 50 years.

Oris was a member of the Christian Church.

- Andrew Jackson Ruark (1842IL-1919) - md (1) Millison M. Middleton in 1862,
(2) Samantha Morrell, both marriages in Schuyler County. Jack lived in Quincy
Illinois late in life.
- Robert Martin Ruark (1845IL-1928) - md Mary Ana Black in 1870 in Schuyler Co.
Both died in Denver, Colorado sometime after 1910. Robert was a carpenter and/or
painter, and is buried in the Fairmount Cemetery in Denver.

- Charles H. Ruark (1873IL-1925) - md (1) Ida May Jennings in 1901 in Peoria, Peoria
County, Illinois. He married (2) Gertrude Hutchenson in 1908, with whom he had the
following children:

- John Ruark (1876IL-1910IL) - md Emma Drucilla Goodrich in 1905 in Peoria, Illinois,
where John passed away only 5 years later. Emma was the daughter of Rufus Goodrich
and Maria Fash, both of whom died of kidney diseases. John was a house painter.
