The Ratliff Ruark Family of Carroll County, MO
Ratliff Morris Ruark (1841IN-1909ID) was born in 1841 in Dearborn County, Indiana.
By 1866 he had relocated to Carroll County, Missouri, where he married
Nancy Rosalie Newsome ( -1874MO). Nancy died in 1874 in Carroll County.
She and Ratliff had two girls:
- Mary Ruark (1869MO- )
- Sarah Ruark (1871MO- )
Ratliff married Joanna Heaton (1855-1930) on January 9, 1876 in Carroll Co.
They moved at least twice - the first time (between 1881 & 1884) to Montana Kansas
(Labette Co.), and the second time in 1888 in a covered wagon to Idaho County, Idaho,
as reflected by their children's birthplaces. Ratliff and Joanna are buried in the
Clearwater Cemetery in Clearwater, Idaho Co., ID.
- John Ratliff Ruark (1877MO- )
- Frank Littleton Ruark (1881MO- )
- Nora Effie Ruark (1884KS- )
- Albert Clayton Ruark (1886KS-1860ID) - md Clara Lamb (1887WA-1978)in Grangeville,

then went to Springdale Washington and was a logger, and moved to Pierce Idaho where
he continued logging until he retired. Following retirement, he was a bartender
in the Pierce tavern. He died in Orofino, Idaho. Please note, some sources
don't follow this exact info. Info listing his draft registration card as
signed during the time he was supposedly in Canada has been found.
- Descendants living
- Edgar Earl Ruark (1889ID- )
- Herman Corwin Ruark (1892ID- )
- Ruth Belle Ruark (1895ID- )
It is possible that Ratliff's parents are Littleton Ruark (1808MD- ) and
Martha (1871MD- ), but thus far no corroborating evidence of this has arisen. It's also
believed that Ratliff had a brother named Pierce Ruark, and a sisten named
Laura Jane Ruark.
